Resignation of the Chairman of the ERAB Advisory Board

Emeritus Professor Philippe De Witte has decided to resign as Chairman of the ERAB Advisory Board. Philippe has been a Board member since ERAB was founded in 2003 and has been the Chairman of the Advisory Board since 2006. We will miss his expertise very much.

For the past ten years he has worked tirelessly on behalf of ERAB and he has helped enormously to make ERAB the success it is today.

His strong commitment to independence from the sponsors for the scientific advisors, and his insistence that only the very best applications are funded has been fundamental in helping to build a solid, scientific and credible Foundation. Alcohol is a very sensitive field of research and more so when sponsored by alcohol producers – the brewers.

ERAB will continue to uphold the principles he laid down and will hopefully continue to grow and succeed.

ERAB will look forward to welcoming a new Chairman of the Advisory Board once he is appointed by the Board of Directors later this year.

Applications received in 2016

ERAB is pleased to announce that 2016 has been another record year for applications and 71 were received by the deadline in March.

They have been received from 16 countries across Europe and 4 projects involve collaboration with other European countries.

The split between biomedical and psychosocial subjects was 52 / 19.

The applications have all been independently peer reviewed and the majority are of a very high standard.

The Advisory Board will, as usual, be recommending that the highest scoring applications, i.e. those which represent the very best science, are funded. All applicants will be notified after the meeting of the Board of Directors in early November.
