In 2018 ERAB and EBC funded a joint grant for technological and/or biomedical research into any aspect of the effect of moderate beer consumption on health. This consisted of one full project grant, jointly funded by the two organisations. It followed a joint desire of ERAB and EBC to bridge the technological and biomedical sciences and to research beer more extensively.
The successful application was from Professors Claus Hellerbrand (Erlangen, Germany) and Ina Bergheim (Vienna, Austria). Their project, entitled “Analysis of the synergistic anti-inflammatory effect of the hop derived beer compound iso-alpha-acids and xanthohumol” was completed in 2022.
